President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Benue State with a directive that the institution takes- off immediately.
The new polytechnic will be located Wannune, the headquarters of Tarka Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued by the Special Assistant to President Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, the President also approved the immediate release of N2billion from the coffers of the Tertiary Education Fund (TETFund) as a take-off grant for the for the new institution.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of Federal Polytechnic Wannune, Benue State and also approved a take-off grant of N2billion for the polytechnic from the funding resources of the TETFund for the provision of core facilities for the immediate take-off,” the statement read.
The announcement is already generating concerns in Benue state with some citizens accusing one of Buhari’s ministers of diverting the earlier planned “Federal Polytechnic Adikpo, the headquarters of Kwande local government area of the state to Wannune.
The institution planned to be established in Adikpo was already going through legislative processes in the National Assembly, with the site already being developed in preparation for take-off before the announcement that the President has approved a fresh, but similar institution in Wannune.
