The Acting National Vice Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party(PDP), Southeast Zone, Chief Ali Odefa has promised the party will conduct a free and fair primary election ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra.
Chief Odefa made the promise during a Stakeholders meeting of Southeast Zonal leadership of the party with the Anambra State PDP working committee held in Awka, the state capital on Monday.
He noted that the political misfortunes of the party in the state since 2006 when All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA)wrestled power from the PDP would come to and in November 2021.
According to Odefa, with a free, fair and transparent primaries, the party which according to him was already recovering its bearing in the state would clinch the gubernatorial position at the November 2021 governorship in the state.
The National Vice Chairman urged the aspirants to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship.
Odefa also specially appealed to members of the party in Anambra State to withdraw all litigations in against the party in the state.
Clearing the air on the rumours of an impending defection of a PDP Governor from the zone, Chief Odefa dismissed the rumor saying that the the rumour was the ‘figment of the imagination of the purveyors of fake news.’
In his own contribution, a former governor of Anambra State and the 2019 PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi charged the various governorship aspirants in the party to start door to door campaigns to the electorate to convince them as that was the only way to emerge victorious in the forthcoming election.
Obi urged the aspirants to see the November Anambra guber election as a contest among PDP and other parties, and not a contest within the party as it is only such orientation that would position the party on the path of political prosperity and victory.
Eerlier in his welcome address, Hon. Ndubuisi Nwobu,the Anambra state PDP chairman stated that the party was experienced and knew the terrains, dreams and aspirations of Anambra rains, as asset which he said enabled the party to retain various seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly despite the fact that the All Progressives Grand Alliance had been the ruling party in the State.
The all-important meeting which took place at Mabel Arch Hotels, Awka had in attendance an array of PDP zonal and state working committees, past and present political office holders from Anambra state such as His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, Distinguished Senator Ben.Obi, Senator Joy Emordi including the gubernatorial aspirants.
