17 members of Ebonyi state House of Assembly and all 13 local government Chairmen in the state have allegedly endorsed the “decamping” of the state Governor, Chief David Umahi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
A top government official who spoke to the EPARLIAMENT on the condition of anonymity confirmed that he attended one of the meetings at the country home of the governor revealed that different youths and political groups in the state have been “briefed” to start peaceful march across the state to call on the governor to officially decamp to the APC and “take Ebonyi state back to the centre of governance.”
EPARLIAMENT on Saturday exclusively reported that the governor had refuted claims that he had decamped to the APC.
In an exchange with the EPARLIAMENT the governor had declared that “I am still in the PDP.”
In a press statement later issued by the governor’s spokesman, Francis Nwaze, the governor called on the general public “to jettison such unfounded rumour” insinuating that he had left the party where he had served as state Chairman, Deputy Governor and Governor respectively in the last 12years.
The statement, however, stated that “If for any reason, Governor Umahi wishes to leave People Democratic Party (PDP), it will be officially communicated and can never be a product from rumour mongers.”
